Pdf Summary
Dr. Pichamol Jirapinyo, the Director of Bariatric Endoscopy Fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, discussed the use of combination therapy involving medication and endoscopic bariatric and metabolic therapies (EBMTs) for weight loss and weight regain.

The presentation included studies on the effectiveness of combining intragastric balloons (IGB) with anti-obesity medications (AOM), such as Metformin and Liraglutide, and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) with Liraglutide. These studies showed that combination therapy resulted in greater weight loss and reduction in body fat compared to the use of IGB or ESG alone.

Another study focused on the use of combination therapy for weight regain following gastric bypass surgery (RYGB). The combination of transoral outlet reduction (TORe) and AOM was found to be effective in achieving weight loss, with a total weight loss of 15.7% at 12 months.

The presentation also highlighted the importance of optimal timing for the initiation of AOM in combination therapy, typically within 6 months of the endoscopic procedure. However, further research is needed to determine the ideal AOM for each patient and procedure.

Overall, combination therapy involving medication and EBMTs shows promise in the treatment of obesity and weight regain following bariatric surgery. However, further investigation is necessary to fully understand its effectiveness and optimal implementation.
