8th Global Gastroenterology and Artificial Intelligence Summit | September 2026-9

Pdf Summary

The AI Institute update outlines AIGI’s growth from a foundational AI initiative into a broader institute built on five pillars: education and training, convening stakeholders, advocacy, standards/quality/safety, and practice operations.

In education, AIGI is helping GI teams learn how to understand, evaluate, and responsibly apply AI through the AI Scholars Program, workshops, webinars, on-demand content, and specialty education across ASGE programming.

As a convener, AIGI brings together physicians, AI experts, program directors, industry, regulators, policymakers, academia, and societies through events such as the Global AI in GI Summit, AI workshops, advisory councils, and DDW-related programming.

Through advocacy, AIGI works to ensure AI’s value in gastroenterology is recognized in policy and coverage discussions. It has engaged with CMS, FDA, Congress, and the AMA on issues including transparency, clinical validity, physician accountability, and reimbursement.

In standards, quality, and safety, AIGI has developed position statements, frameworks, metrics, and consensus work to support ethical, effective AI use. Key priorities include explainability, bias, generalizability, real-world evidence, and post-market performance.

In practice operations, the institute focuses on how AI can improve workflows, reduce burden, support coding and payment, and enhance the patient and GI team experience. A 2026 AI Operations Workshop will address real-world implementation challenges.

Looking ahead to 2027–2029, AIGI aims to move from understanding AI to implementing it responsibly at scale, with emphasis on practice transformation, governance, policy leadership, workforce readiness, and next-generation technology.
