The ASGE Annual GI Advanced Practice Provider Course is a two-day virtual course designed for advanced practice providers (APPs), physicians, and practice staff working in gastroenterology. The course aims to provide a comprehensive overview and updates on various topics in GI practice, including the roles and responsibilities of APPs, practice management, and professional development. <br /><br />On day one, the course covers topics such as developing optimal GI consultation skills, billing codes for GI consultations, patient preparation for procedures, medicolegal principles in GI practice, developing an onboarding program for GI APPs, and building a high-performing APP-based GI team. Day two focuses on more advanced concepts, including general and advanced endoscopic procedures, evaluation and management of common GI symptoms/diagnoses/diseases, patient evaluation and management for liver disease, IBD, acute pancreatitis, Celiac disease, and Barrett’s esophagus, interpretation of common GI imaging tests, and the NordICC Trial Study and education strategies for patients and referring physicians.<br /><br />The target audience for this course includes APPs who are new to GI or looking for a refresher, APP supervisors, physician leaders, and administrators responsible for APP onboarding and collaboration. <br /><br />The course offers continuing medical education (CME) credits for physicians and a certificate of participation for other healthcare professionals. The ASGE ensures high scientific evidence and conduct by selecting subject matter experts with no financial relationships with ineligible companies. The course materials adhere to HIPAA guidelines to protect patient privacy.<br /><br />To access presentations and claim CME credits, participants must complete an online evaluation survey through GI LEAP ASGE’s Learning Management System.<br /><br />The planning and organizing of this course follow ASGE’s Outcome-Based Education Level, focusing on key physician attributes such as medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, patient-centered care, and evidence-based practice.<br /><br />The course is planned and supported by various committees, including the Reimbursement Committee, Practice Operations Committee, and ASGE Education Council.
