ASGE Masterclass: Expert Performance Approach to Colonoscopy (Live/Virtual) | February 2026-Learning Endoscopy Using the Expert Performance Approach

Video Transcription

Video Summary

The course uses an “expert performance approach,” studying how experts detect and diagnose flat lesions, identifying the key steps and cues that distinguish them from beginners, and emphasizing the most critical elements. Training is based on deliberate practice: stepwise active learning, working at the edge of discomfort, requiring competency before advancing, with individualized feedback, repetition, and clear objectives. Evidence from other fields and simulation-based mastery learning shows better retention and confidence than traditional teaching. Prior successes include increased adoption of OTSC and improved knowledge in hereditary colorectal cancer. A 2024 Bali consensus supports deliberate practice, curricula-based simulation, tele-teaching, and future AI guidance.
