Pdf Summary
The ASGE Perioral Endoscopy Myotomy (POEM) program is a two-day course that will be held on July 16-17, 2022, in Downers Grove, IL. The course will focus on the minimally invasive technique of per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) as a promising alternative for treating patients with achalasia. POEM has been shown to yield equivalent results to traditional approaches such as Heller myotomy, pneumatic dilation, and Botox injection, making it a new standard of care for properly selected patients.

The learning objectives of the course include identifying the benefits and risks of POEM, differentiating the pros and cons of different POEM techniques, and demonstrating the techniques of submucosal tunneling and myotomy. The course will provide didactic sessions and hands-on training using simulated models.

The course is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, and participants can claim a maximum of 13 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. To claim credit, participants must complete an online evaluation survey through GI LEAP, ASGE's Learning Management System.

The course organizers and faculty members have disclosed their relevant financial relationships with ineligible companies and any conflicts of interest have been addressed and mitigated according to ACCME guidelines. The educational program is designed to address desirable physician attributes such as medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, patient-centered care, and evidence-based practice.

The course is supported by educational grants from Boston Scientific Corporation, ERBE USA, Fujifilm Healthcare, and MICRO-TECH Endoscopy, with in-kind support from various companies including Boston Scientific Corporation, ConMed, Cook Medical, Fujifilm Healthcare, Olympus Corporation of the Americas, and STERIS Endoscopy.

Overall, the ASGE Perioral Endoscopy Myotomy (POEM) program aims to educate participants on the benefits, techniques, and management of complications related to POEM and provide them with the skills necessary to safely and effectively perform the procedure for patients with achalasia.
