Video Summary
The liver, located in the right upper abdomen, supports glucose regulation, nutrient storage, protein and clotting-factor production, and the breakdown of drugs and toxins. It receives blood from both the hepatic artery and portal vein, while bile drains through ducts toward the intestine. Bile helps digest fats; the gallbladder stores some of it and releases it after fatty meals in response to CCK. The pancreas lies behind the stomach and has exocrine functions—secreting digestive enzymes and bicarbonate—and endocrine functions, including regulating blood glucose. Its head, near the bile duct and intestine, is an important site where disease can cause obstruction or jaundice.
