Pdf Summary
Case 1: A 56-year-old male with difficulty swallowing and weight loss is evaluated. Possible causes of his dysphagia include malignancy, peptic stricture, eosinophilic esophagitis, Schatzki's ring, infectious esophagitis, medication-induced esophagitis, and motility disorders.

Case 2: A 34-year-old male presents with sudden-onset inability to swallow and occasional slow transit of food. Possible causes of his dysphagia include eosinophilic esophagitis, Schatzki's ring, peptic stricture, and motility disorders.

Case 3: A 50-year-old female with progressively worsening dysphagia is assessed. The possible causes of her dysphagia include type III achalasia.

In the evaluation of these cases, diagnostic tests such as chest CT scan, barium swallow, high-resolution esophageal motility study, and esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) are considered depending on the individual patient's presentation. Treatment options for esophageal cancer, eosinophilic esophagitis, and achalasia are discussed, including the use of proton pump inhibitors, dilation, and medical therapy. The importance of considering patient preferences, disease severity, and other factors in treatment decisions is emphasized.

Overall, these cases highlight the differential diagnosis and management of dysphagia in different patient scenarios, taking into account their symptoms, medical history, and diagnostic findings.
