ERCP Bootcamp: Cutting Edge Comprehensive Training for the Team

Video Transcription

Video Summary

The talk focused on managing difficult common bile duct stones during ERCP, comparing mechanical lithotripsy with cholangioscopy-guided electrohydraulic lithotripsy (EHL). Difficult stones were defined as those not cleared in one ERCP or those impacted, large, shaped by duct anatomy, strictures, or prior surgery. Mechanical lithotripsy is cheap and widely available but less effective for large, hard, impacted stones. EHL, using SpyGlass and saline, is increasingly favored for complex cases. The speaker emphasized teamwork, standardized equipment “recipe cards,” pre-planning, and avoiding problematic baskets to improve efficiency and outcomes.
