These innovations aim to reduce operator variability, improve traceability, and lower contamination risk.<br /><br />Disposable duodenoscopes are presented as an option for high-risk patients, especially those with MDRO colonization/infection, liver transplant candidates or recipients, immunosuppressed patients, and cases involving incomplete drainage or biliary disease such as PSC or hilar strictures. Fully disposable scopes eliminate reprocessing, lowering cross-patient contamination risk but increasing cost and waste. Reusable scopes with disposable caps reduce risk compared with fixed-cap scopes while preserving familiar workflow.<br /><br />The presentation concludes with practical next steps: move away from older fixed-endcap duodenoscopes, standardize reusable scopes with disposable distal caps when appropriate, reserve fully disposable duodenoscopes for selected high-risk patients, and strengthen quality assurance through borescope inspection, staff competency, digital documentation, and traceability.
