Hello, good morning, everyone. I'm Prateek Sharma and along with Mike Wallace, it's our pleasure to chair once again the ASGE Global AI Summit. This is the third of its series. The first one was held live in Washington DC in 2019. And of course, last year and this year, we've had to go virtual. And hopefully this is also the last year that we are going virtual and looking forward to seeing all of you in person next year. You know, so this is obviously a very important topic, not just for the ASGE, but for healthcare in general and specifically as it relates to gastroenterology and endoscopy. So what Mike and I hope that what we'll be sharing with you this year is for us to be able to understand a robust AI decision framework, which can help us in implementing artificial intelligence in gastroenterology, endoscopy, cancer screening, surveillance, and creating an awareness of how AI powered solutions can transform healthcare in endoscopy and gastroenterology. We'll also share with you different opportunities, including disease diagnosis, monitoring, and clinical workflow and how you can look forward to a smart endoscopy unit. And I think those are all different titles, talks, and panelists coming on board. We'll also provide you with insights into various AI based techniques, which will impact and improve traditional GI and endoscopy based care. This couldn't be possible with the list of faculty now that we go to, because these are the folks who will be showing you, leading you with all of these. And the list is huge. These are all experts in the field of both AI and endoscopy. Also wanted to highlight that this unique feature of the ASGE AI Summit, that we get together folks from all walks of life related to artificial intelligence. You can see on the list, endoscopist, a gastroenterologist, content specialist, but also representatives from the tech industry, from the FDA, from radiology to tell us what they've been doing. And finally, also, you know, an industry panel that we have created towards the end of the summit to have this open dialogue and discussion as to how society, academia, and industry can work together, you know, mutually so that we can move this field forward. So that's, again, our stellar list of faculty. On the next slide, you'll see all our sponsors. And again, it's extremely difficult to conduct meeting without having our industry partners. And these are listed here from CDX Diagnostic, Docbot, Endosoft, Fujifilm, Medtronic, Olympus, Pentax, and Steris. And again, on behalf of the ASGE, I'd like to thank all of them for their support for this summit. You'll also be able to visit the virtual room and exhibits. And I'd encourage all 105 of you who've registered to try during the breaks to go there as a way of also thanking our sponsors and exhibitors for being here with us today. All of us are familiar with this. And so just because we've been Zooming now for more than a year and a half, more than what we'd probably wanted to do. But here is that chat function. But also that is more for the panelists who are there, for the attendees, as well as the panelists. If you have a specific question during the Q&A session that we've really built in, and I'd like to ask all of you to try to do that, because that is what will keep our panel alive and kicking, is use the Q&A function rather than the chat function to do that. And that's on the bottom right-hand side of your screen. So with that, let's move on to session number one. It's my pleasure now to introduce my co-moderator for this session, who's also our current president of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. And that's Doug Rex. And sorry, before I turn it on to Doug, Mike, you're there. Mike, you want to add anything to this before we get started with Doug? Sorry, Mike. Yeah, thank you, Prateek. It's really my pleasure to be a part of this now in its third year. This is by far the dominant topic in the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy for the last three to four years. We continue to see huge and very rapid movement in this field. There's no other topic in our entire field where we're seeing as much research being done, as many publications as are coming out. Even since our meeting a year ago, we have seen the introduction of now commercial systems. Many of us are using AI systems in our endoscopy unit. Since this meeting last year, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the European Oversight Group that provides CE Mark, and even in my country now in the United Arab Emirates, we have approval to use these systems. We're implementing them in our unit. So we've gone from sort of theoretical efficacy studies now to actual practice of AI systems. We've just seen the first sort of many to come. We now have systems for colonoscopy, for CAD-E, for computer-aided detection. And I think rapidly on the heels of that, we'll see other systems that come along for other gastrointestinal conditions. This is really a remarkable event. We have not only the leading gastrointestinal endoscopic scientists in the world who have been publishing many of the research in this area, we also have the leading industry and regulatory representatives. As Prateek mentioned, this event pulls together all of the critical individuals and groups that oversee the advancement of AI in the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy. We're very pleased to welcome the companies that develop and advance these devices, broad-based companies like Google and Amazon that are heavily interested in investment in advancing the field and industry from the representatives at the Food and Drug Administration who are giving us advice on how we bring these devices from research and science into practice. So without any further ado, we'll go ahead and introduce our first session, which is titled Getting Started with AI and GI Endoscopy. We want to bring everybody up quickly to speed from the person who's never done any AI work. And our moderators for this session will be Dr. Prateek Sharma and our current president of the ASG, Dr. Douglas Rex. I'll turn it over to Dr. Rex to introduce the first talk.
Video Summary
The transcript is from a video introducing the ASGE Global AI Summit. The speakers, Prateek Sharma and Mike Wallace, discuss the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, specifically in gastroenterology and endoscopy. They mention the goals of the summit, which include understanding AI decision frameworks, exploring AI-powered solutions in healthcare, and discussing opportunities for disease diagnosis, monitoring, and clinical workflow. They also highlight the diverse range of participants, including experts in AI, endoscopy, and representatives from the tech industry, FDA, and radiology. The video also acknowledges the summit's sponsors and encourages attendees to visit the virtual exhibits. The transcript ends by introducing the first session of the summit titled "Getting Started with AI and GI Endoscopy," moderated by Prateek Sharma and Douglas Rex.
