Pdf Summary
The 4th Global GI-AI Summit, led by Prateek Sharma, MD and Chair of the ASGE AI Task Force, focused on redefining healthcare through the use of artificial intelligence (AI). The healthcare industry has the potential to greatly improve through AI, with advancements in patient-oriented AI, clinician-centered AI, and administrative operations AI.

The main areas of focus for redefining healthcare include improving access to care through digital transformation and enabling AI in healthcare through cloud and connected health systems. Machine learning can help drive better outcomes, and AI technologies such as natural language processing and conversational AI can assist with physician fatigue.

Challenges in quality metrics in endoscopy were discussed, such as the feasibility of data burden to measure quality and unintended consequences. CAD/AI/computer vision in endoscopy was also explored, with the understanding that these technologies are not meant to replace medical doctors, but rather assist them in their work.

Research themes and vision included challenges in medical image analysis such as the acquisition of large, representative, labeled datasets, inter-observer variability, efficiency, robustness, interpretability, and explainability. The implementation of AI in clinical practice has been hindered by a lack of funding and focus on algorithm development.

Moving forward, the summit emphasized the importance of learning from unlabeled data, collaboration between AI and endoscopists, AI for quality control, and going beyond what humans can see.

Overall, the 4th Global GI-AI Summit highlighted the potential for AI to revolutionize healthcare, with a focus on improving patient outcomes, access to care, and the efficiency of healthcare operations.
