Pdf Summary
The ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program is a program designed by the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy to recognize and promote excellence in endoscopy units. The program requires units to meet certain criteria and standards in order to receive recognition.

The program application must be reviewed and signed by the medical director of the endoscopy unit. Units can apply for recognition for multiple units, but each unit must submit a separate application. The application form is available for download on the ASGE website.

Applying units must indicate if they are a new application, a renewal, or a reinstatement. They must also provide the name of the medical director and specify the type of endoscopy unit (office-based, ambulatory surgical center, or hospital outpatient department).

Units must indicate any institutional affiliation and provide information on the accrediting organization from which the unit received accreditation.

To meet the program criteria, at least one unit representative must participate in the ASGE Quality Course on improving quality and safety in endoscopy units. Renewing units can fulfill this criterion by attending either the ASGE Quality Course or a GI Endoscopy Unit Leadership course.

Units must also demonstrate that at least 50% of all endoscopists working in the unit are ASGE members. They must provide the name, membership status, specialty, and email address of each endoscopist.

The medical director of the unit must attest to the adoption of ASGE clinical guidelines and the CDC guideline on infection control as unit policy.

The medical director must also attest that all pertinent staff members have completed competency assessments for endoscope reprocessing, sterile medication administration, and infection prevention in the endoscopy unit within the prior year.

Units must also complete a Quality Policy Assessment, including the submission of policies related to quality measures, performance data on quality measures, and a summary of a clinical quality improvement project completed in the unit.

The application fee must be paid in order for the application to be processed. The fee varies depending on whether all endoscopists in the unit are ASGE members or if the unit participates in the GIQuIC registry.

Applicants must submit all completed materials, including the application form, proof of accreditation, membership verification, attestation forms, competency assessment forms, quality policy assessment forms, quality improvement project summary, and application fees.

For any questions or assistance regarding the application or the program, applicants can contact the ASGE via phone or email.
