Pdf Summary
The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) developed quality indicators for endoscopy units through a systematic review and Delphi method. The indicators cover patient and employee experience, efficiency, safety, and infection control. They address factors like communication, scheduling, informed consent, employee orientation, and leadership. The indicators aim to improve patient care and outcomes. Future research is needed to explore the correlation between employee experience and unit quality, training quality and outcomes, and efforts to enhance staff satisfaction and training. The study identified 29 quality indicators, including leadership structure, staff education and training, procedure quality monitoring, and endoscope tracking. Five priority indicators were identified: leadership structure, education and training, procedure quality monitoring, communication of reports, and endoscope tracking. The study acknowledged limitations but provides a starting point for endoscopy units to assess and improve quality. Future research should focus on developing formal measures and studying their impact on patient outcomes.
