Pdf Summary
The ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program requires hospitals to submit an application form signed by the medical director of the endoscopy unit. The form can be downloaded from the ASGE website and must be completed for each unit. The application can be for a new unit, renewal of recognition, or reinstatement. The form also requires information about the medical director, the type of endoscopy unit, institutional affiliation, and accreditation received.

The application also requires proof of completion of the ASGE Quality Course for at least one unit representative within the past year, or for renewing units, completion of either the ASGE Quality Course or a GI Endoscopy Unit Leadership course. The application includes a section to list the names of endoscopists working in the unit and their membership status in ASGE. At least 50% of the endoscopists working in the unit must be ASGE members.

The Medical Director of the endoscopy unit must attest to adopting seven ASGE guidelines and the CDC guideline on infection control as unit policy. These guidelines cover safety, infection control, reprocessing, management of antithrombotic agents, antibiotic prophylaxis, sedation and anesthesia, and privileging, credentialing, and proctoring.

The application requires an attestation of competency for staff members in endoscope reprocessing, sterile medication administration, and infection prevention. It also includes a section for the unit to demonstrate the adoption of quality policies in areas such as procedure quality monitoring, adverse event tracking, and patient satisfaction surveys.

The application fees range from $550 to $275, with discounts for units where all endoscopists are members of ASGE or participate in the GIQuIC registry. The completed application must be submitted with payment, proof of accreditation, and all required forms and attachments.

Applicants are also required to submit a summary of a clinical quality improvement project completed in their unit, using the Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control format. The application checklist includes a list of all the required materials that need to be submitted.

For any questions about the application or program, applicants are instructed to contact ASGE by phone or email.
