Pdf Summary
In this presentation, Sufiyan H. Chaudhry, MD, MBA discusses the challenges facing GI practices and offers strategies for reinforcing their structural integrity. One of the major challenges discussed is the financial aspect, with reimbursement changes, the potential return of sequestration, increased penalties for MIPS, and the growing importance of cost in quality metrics. According to a survey by the AMA, there has been a decline in physician-owned practices, with only 49.1% working for MD owned practices in 2020 compared to 54% in 2018. There has also been an increase in the number of MDs working in practices with more than 50 doctors. Another challenge highlighted is burnout, with studies suggesting that between 35% and 45% of clinicians experience high levels of occupational burnout. Workforce shortage is also a pressing issue, with surveys indicating a shortage of GI practitioners. To address these challenges, it is necessary to look at practice management differently and explore staffing solutions, inspect the infrastructure, and improve communication. The audience is invited to participate in polls, share their experiences, and ask questions throughout the presentation.
