Masterclass: Advanced GI Endoscopic Imaging (Live/Virtual) | December 2025-Novel Bleeding Detection

Video Transcription

Video Summary

Ahmed introduces red dichromatic imaging (RDI), an Olympus technology on the X1 platform designed to enhance bleeding detection during endoscopic procedures by using amber and red LED lights. The red light penetrates deeply and reflects widely, creating a bright background, while the amber light is absorbed by hemoglobin, highlighting blood vessels as dark areas through digital processing. RDI has three modes: Mode 1 focuses on superficial vessels for active bleeding, Mode 2 targets deeper vessels to avoid injury during interventions, and Mode 3 balances penetration and natural tissue appearance. Clinically, RDI aids in identifying bleeding sites, guiding therapy in upper/lower GI bleeding, avoiding vessels during incisions, and detecting exposed vessels post-resection to prevent delayed bleeding. Case demonstrations show RDI’s superiority in reducing visual noise, improving vessel visualization, and enabling precise application of hemostatic therapy, reducing tissue injury risk. Users typically acclimate to RDI’s color scheme after several cases and often prefer its use throughout complex procedures like ESD and third space endoscopy.
