Masterclass: EndoQuest - Endoscopy in the GI Unit (Live/Virtual) | September 2025-The Nurse Educators Perspective

Video Transcription

Video Summary

Endoscopy education historically followed an apprenticeship model but faces modern challenges such as lack of standardized training, limited certification programs, and staff turnover. In response, initiatives like the HTC Endotech program in Texas, launched in 2020, provide structured, accredited pathways including the Associate of Applied Science in Endoscopy Technician and innovative registered apprenticeship programs at UTMDACC. These programs combine classroom instruction with hands-on learning, allowing “earn while you learn” opportunities. The curriculum emphasizes professional development through immersive boot camps, multi-modal education, and collaboration with vendors and staff committees, focusing on patient safety and clinical competence. Celebrations like Endotech Week spotlight the crucial role of technicians as unsung heroes in endoscopy teams. The field offers multiple growth pathways from certification to advanced degrees, fostering lifelong learning and leadership. This evolving education landscape aims to inspire and equip technicians with the skills, confidence, and professionalism to enhance patient care and advance the future of endoscopy.
