Separating AI Hype from Clinical Reality AI Workshop | September 2026-NextDimension AI Presentation

Pdf Summary

The document is a healthcare AI implementation guide focused on helping GI practices avoid hype-driven vendor selection. It argues that many AI tools look impressive in sales demos but fail during real-world deployment, especially when they do not fully automate tasks, cannot handle peak workloads, or shift too much review work onto staff.

It starts by encouraging buyers to ask practical ROI questions: whether AI saves time or money, when returns will appear, and how it will affect operating costs. But it says the deeper questions are the ones that determine success after go-live.

The guide highlights four key evaluation areas:

1. Will AI automate the whole task?
Partial automation often leaves the same amount of work for staff. In colonoscopy booking, for example, true automation must handle intake, eligibility verification, pre-procedure questions, slot matching, and internal workflow steps—not just answer the phone.

2. Will AI survive Monday 8 a.m. rush?
Demos can hide failures that appear at scale, such as misheard patient data, failed EHR updates, slow responses, or incorrect advice. Vendors should prove reliability under heavy, real-world use with safety nets and performance monitoring.

3. Who carries the review burden?
Many implementations fail because staff must manually check every AI action, creating extra work that teams cannot sustain. The document argues for embedded specialist support rather than relying on practice staff to do the implementation work.

4. Is the AI specialty-proven, or are you first?
The best systems are built from depth in one specialty, where lessons learned in one practice can quickly improve others.

Overall, the message is: ask these four questions before signing, not after go-live.
