Pdf Summary
This document discusses the topic of obesity and the potential use of plication techniques for weight reduction. Obesity is a global epidemic, with millions of people classified as obese or morbidly obese. Surgical interventions for obesity are underutilized, with only 15-20% of people in Israel receiving treatment. Endoscopic options are considered safer and intended for lower BMI patients, but they have limitations such as long learning curves and high skill requirements.

The document introduces EndoZip, a semi-automated and minimally invasive suturing system designed for weight reduction in obese individuals. It is indicated for use in adults with a BMI of 30-40 kg/m2 who have failed weight reduction with diet and exercise alone. The EndoZip system aids in creating durable restrictive sutures.

The first in-human study using the EndoZip prototype involved 11 patients with a BMI range of 30-40 kg/m2. The study showed positive weight loss outcomes, as well as reduced waist circumference. At 6 months, the mean total body weight loss (TBWL) was 17.8 kg, and the mean percentage TBWL was 16.2%. The mean percentage excess body weight loss (EBWL) was 54.3%.

The features and benefits of the EndoZip system include operator independence, ease of use with a short learning curve, reproducible procedures, consistent suture size and depth, high suture density, and longer-lasting effects of restrictive sutures. These features aim to provide reproducible results in weight reduction.

Currently, there is an ongoing international multi-center clinical trial to further evaluate the efficacy and safety of the EndoZip system.
