Video Summary
In this video, a 54-year-old woman who previously had a right hemicolectomy for appendiceal carcinoma is experiencing abdominal pain. The CT scan reveals thickening of the colon wall in multiple areas, including the distal transverse colon. One of the areas is probed with a biopsy forcep, showing that the masses are not involving the mucosa and are located below it. The correct diagnosis is pseudomyxoma. The presence of multifocal lesions, a history of mucinous appendiceal carcinoma, and absence of the cushion sign differentiate it from other possibilities such as lipoma. This video tip is sponsored by an educational grant from Braintree, a part of Cibela Pharmaceuticals, makers of SUTAB.
