Providing safe, effective, efficient care to patients takes every member of the health care team working together to implement and deploy strategies for addressing diverse quality and safety issues faced by GI endoscopy units. Designed to educate physicians and non-physician staff on how to translate quality and safety concepts into everyday practice, this course will cover everything from the fundamental elements of a successful program, to emerging trends and evidence.

Through a mixture of didactic lectures and interactive sessions, this renowned quality course will empower participants with practical solutions that can be immediately deployed to improve quality and safety in any GI endoscopy setting (i.e., office, ASC, hospital). Participants will leave feeling prepared to build and maintain a top-notch quality assurance and performance improvement program.
Learning Objectives
  • List 2-3 measures of quality in endoscopy (knowledge).
  • Recognize techniques described to make your endoscopy unit more efficient and safer (comprehension).
  • Indicate 1 method learned you could use to improve patient satisfaction in your endoscopy unit, specifically areas that aid in doctor-patient communication (comprehension).
  • Define potential sources of infection from contact with various body fluids, transmissibility during endoscopic procedure, and the susceptibility to potential disinfectants (knowledge).
  • Identify measures you could use within your unit quality assurance program and explain why (e.g., examples could include sedation and monitoring and unit (re)accreditation requirements) (Analysis).

Optimal Viewing Experience in GI Leap
Although all browsers continually roll out new versions and updates, we currently recommend using Chrome for the best functionality when accessing GI Leap. Please note that Internet Explorer is not a supported browser. Follow these tips for better streaming and viewing of ASGE videos:

  1. Close other applications and browser tabs. This decreases the load on memory so your computer or other device can focus on streaming.
  2. Use a 5 GHz frequency if your router supports it. The common 2.4 GHz frequency is used by household appliances, so is more crowded. Avoiding it is like getting into the carpool lane on a freeway: smoother sailing.
  3. Use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi if possible but GI LEAP is built with Wi-Fi in mind.
  4. Monitor your internet connection. If your ISP has promised you 5MBps and you are getting only 1MBps, it's time for a phone call to your internet provider to sort that out.
