ASGE Annual GI Advanced Practice Provider Course (On-Demand) | July 2021
Description
Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are integral members of the gastroenterology clinical team in delivering high-quality and efficient care to patients. This two-day course provides education for GI APPs at all levels of practice and experience.

Day one focuses on topics for APPs that are new or returning to GI to help them navigate their role in their respective practices. Day two explores more advanced concepts in GI endoscopy and case-based studies including pancreatic disease, dysphagia, GI bleeding, IBD, and GI emergencies. This course is envisioned to become a critical resource for practices that want quality GI education for APPs, to create an effective APP/physician collaboration and successfully and smoothly integrate new APPs into their GI team. 
Day One Learning Objectives
  • List critical scope of practice points in GI consultation as reflected in proper documentation.
  • Identify common billing codes for GI Consultation, supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Discuss best practices in preparing the patient for procedures with various presented endoscope case studies.
  • Discuss the role of the GI APP by chronicling both inpatient and outpatient workdays.
  • Assess tools and resources needed to develop an onboarding program for the GI APP.
  • List key elements of a high-performing, APP-based and supported GI team.
Day Two Learning Objectives
  • Review best practices for general and advanced endoscopic procedures.
  • Identify the appropriate evaluation and management algorithm for common GI symptoms/diagnoses that an APP will encounter through case-based clinical scenarios.
  • Learn the essentials of patient management for liver disease, IBD, acute pancreatitis and GI bleeding.
  • Describe critical points in common therapeutic endoscopic procedures, specifically indications and potential complications of EMR, luminal stents, ESD, esophageal ablation, and EUS based interventions.
  • Recognize GI emergencies, such as acute cholangitis, food impaction, GI bleeding, and post-procedure complications, and discuss the appropriate evaluation and management of these acute conditions.
