Description
Endoscopic mucosal resection reduces the incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer and is considered an essential skill for all GI fellows. Various polypectomy techniques and devices are available, their use often based upon individual preferences and local availability. Dr. Greg Haber will review data on which polyps become malignant. Emphasis will be on assessing the size of the polyp and how it is the primary risk factor for malignancy. A review of various cases in this webinar will highlight options for consideration on how polyps are removed and then examined pathologically and what microscopic features who with indicators towards increased risk for malignancy. For fellows and other clinicians, will review the primary ways to improve the quality of colonoscopy thorough bowel preparation, high-quality inspection of the colon, methods to improve the ADR, and techniques to ensure that once polyps are found, they are completely removed.
Learning Objectives
1. Identify which techniques to remove polyps that are larger than 2 cm but lack the appearance of an invasive cancer.
2. Determine which procedures can be used to remove the entire polyp as a single piece, regardless of size.
3. Identify which procedure(s) are used as indicated by guideline recommendations for those observed as small polyps (<1 to 2 cm).
