Significant controversies exist on the best practice for endoscopic management of peri-pancreatic fluid collections (PFCs). The aim of this educational video is to provide the viewers with an in-depth discussion in the latest updates and controversies in endoscopic management of PFCs. Particular emphasis has been placed on the following topics including the technical and technological evolution in endoscopic drainage of PFCs, the 2012 Revised Atlanta's criteria for defining PFCs, the optimal approach for draining pseudocysts, the role of endoscopic drainage in pancreatic necrosis, the technical considerations in endoscopic drainage, the specific stent systems for EUS-guided drainage, the adjunctive measures for successful endoscopic drainage, and management of adverse events.

Target Audience

Practicing gastroenterologists, gastroenterology fellows and trainees, medical residents, physician assistants, and nurses.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

  • Appropriately define the types of PFCs
  • Compare the pros and cons of various approaches for drainage of PFCs
  • Construct an overview of EUS-specific stent systems
  • Explain various adjunctive measures used in endoscopic drainage
  • Determine potential adverse events associated with endoscopic drainage of PFCs
