This CME activity consists of the ASGE video, Office-Based Non-Endoscopic Treatments for Hemorrhoids, followed by a post-assessment and evaluation.

This video covers the non-surgical care of hemorrhoids and fissures, which are something that should easily be part of every gastroenterologist’s practice. Many gastroenterologists have previously tended to shy away from caring for these issues. The content of this video includes:
• Antaomy and pathophysiology of anorectum.
• Proper physical exam and endoscopic exam of anorectum.
• Care of anal fissures, other spastic disorders and pelvic floor dysfunction.
• Care of hemorrhoids, including the need to address coexistent issues at the time of hemorrhoid care.
• Demonstration of in-office or ambulatory surgery centers (ASC) care of hemorrhoids.

Target Audience

Practicing gastrointestinal endoscopists, gastroenterologists, gastroenterology fellows and trainees, medical residents, physician assistants and nurses.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:
• Improve diagnostic skills regarding anorectum.
• Recognize and discuss the anatomy of the anorectum and pathophysiology of hemorrhoids.
• Recall and evaluate the diagnosis and management of peri-anal diseases.
• Perform non-surgical management techniques for the treatment of hemorrhoids.
