ASGE Annual GI Advanced Practice Provider Course Bundle (On-Demand) | April 2022
Thank you Olympus!
This course is supported, in part, by an educational grant from Olympus Corporation of the Americas.
Description
Advanced practice providers (APPs) are an integral part of any gastroenterology practice’s clinical team. This virtual two-day course was designed for those APPs and the physicians and practice staff who work with and/or supervise them. Given a mix of lectures and interactive panel discussions, this is an excellent introductory or refresher course. This course will highlight ways to build and sustain more collaborative working relationships, and it will detail the steps a GI practice should take to integrate APPs into its clinical team.

Day one will address the APP’s normal day-to-day roles and responsibilities – as well as touching on some practice management and professional development topics – while day two will delve into more advanced concepts like pancreatic disease, dysphagia, GI bleeding, IBD, and GI emergencies.
Learning Objectives

Day One

  • List recommendations for developing optimal GI consultation skills, including proper medical record documentation.
  • Identify common GI billing codes (supported by the appropriate documentation).
  • Discuss best practices for preparing patients for procedures, including sedation, bowel preparation, and anticoagulation management in the peri-endoscopy period.
  • Discuss key GI medicolegal principles.
  • Assess the tools and resources that are needed to develop an APP onboarding program for GI practices.
  • List the key elements of a high-performing and APP-based and supported GI team.
  • Discuss strategies to avoid and manage provider burnout.

Day Two

  • Review best clinical practices for general and advanced endoscopic procedures.
  • Identify the appropriate evaluation and management algorithm for common GI symptoms/diagnoses/diseases that an APP will encounter through case-based clinical scenarios and discussion.
  • Learn the essentials of patient evaluation and management for liver disease, IBD, acute pancreatitis, Celiac disease, and Barrett’s esophagus.
  • Describe the updated guidelines for colorectal cancer screening, including non-colonoscopy-based alternatives for screening.
  • Discuss the role of and how to interpret common GI imaging tests.

Optimal Viewing in GI Leap
Although all browsers continually roll out new versions and updates, we currently recommend using Chrome for the best functionality when accessing GI Leap. Please note that Internet Explorer is not a supported browser. Follow these tips for better streaming and viewing of ASGE videos:

  1. Close other applications and browser tabs. This decreases the load on memory so your computer or other device can focus on streaming.
  2. Use a 5 GHz frequency if your router supports it. The common 2.4 GHz frequency is used by household appliances, so is more crowded. Avoiding it is like getting into the carpool lane on a freeway: smoother sailing.
  3. Use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi if possible but GI LEAP is built with Wi-Fi in mind.
  4. Monitor your internet connection. If your ISP has promised you 5MBps and you are getting only 1MBps, it's time for a phone call to your internet provider to sort that out.
