Purpose of Curriculum Sampler
ASGE now offers a 40 hour comprehensive curriculum for Endoscopy Technicians, spanning 4 categories of topics:
  1. Infection Control
  2. EGD Colonoscopy Enteroscopy
  3. ERCP and EUS
  4. Endoscopic Technology and Electrosurgery
This curriculum sampler includes 1 video from each of these categories to give you an understanding of the depth and detail of this curriculum. At the end of the curriculum is a 200 question assessment exam. Passing this exam qualifies students for a Certificate of Completion that can be presented to their Institution.

Content Description

This course provides a sampling of the curriculum for Endoscopy Technicians and covers the following topics:

  • Band ligator: This video explains the use of band ligators in medical procedures, focusing on their applications in treating various bleeding conditions like esophageal variceal bleeding and diverticular bleeding. It also gives a step-by-step guide on how to set up a band ligator and place bands while highlighting the importance of understanding the venous anatomy.

  • Fundamentals of Aseptic Technique-Manual Cleaning: The importance of manual cleaning of medical scopes before high-level disinfection is discussed in this video. The process includes preparing the sink, cleaning the endoscope's exterior and channels, flushing the channels, rinsing, drying, and inspecting the scope before transferring it for high-level disinfection.

  • Extraction balloon catheter: This video covers the use of Stone Extraction Balloon Catheter for removing bile duct stones and passing guide wires through narrow strictures. It explains the setup, operation, and process of removing stones using the balloon catheter while emphasizing the importance of care and alignment during the procedure.

  • Foreign Body Retrieval - net and snare: The video discusses the use of a retrieval net and a snare for foreign body retrieval, focusing on their applications in removing large polyps, food boluses, and foreign bodies. It emphasizes the careful maneuvering of these devices to avoid complications during the retrieval process.
