This CME activity consists of the ASGE video, Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery: Current Status and Future Perspective (OLV007), followed by a post-assessment and evaluation.
Natural Orifices Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES) represented a novel approach to peritoneal cavity by incising through the wall of gastrointestinal tract without the need of any incision over abdominal wall. This leads to an appealing approach to perform surgery as it can achieve the goal of no scar surgery.NOTES resulted in a new paradigm shift in interventional endoscopy. NOTES has gained much attention from surgeons and endoscopists all over the world since its introduction. However, the adoption of this technology has been slow and graded in clinical practice. The current challenges are similar to those encountered by laparoscopy during its infancy. This video presentation consists of three chapters; the concept of NOTES, the current status of NOTES-from pure- and hybrid-NOTES to other NOTES trials, and the future prospective of NOTES.
Practicing gastroenterologists, gastroenterology fellows and trainees, medical residents, physician assistants and nurses.
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:
• Understand the advanced devices of endoscopy• Understand the advanced techniques of therapeutic endoscopy• Understand the concept of NOTES, the current diagnostic applications of NOTES, the current therapeutic applications of NOTES and the future perspectives
