Management Strategies in Anorectal Diseases Workshop at DDW | May 2024
Release Date: May 2024
Viewing Time:
4.5 hours
Description

Benign anorectal disease management is in the scope of practice of a gastroenterologist. These disorders include hemorrhoids, anal fissures, pruritus and rectal dyssynergia. These disorders are easy to diagnose and treat in the office setting. There is variability in learning, training, and incorporating this into the GI practice setting. The good news, it is easy to learn and provide a more comprehensive service to your patients with anorectal complaints. Most patients with these ailments do not need surgical intervention and therefore should be managed by the gastroenterologist. This workshop will help you start your own anorectal clinic.

This course contains information from the workshop held at DDW on May 17, 2024.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe steps needed to perform a thorough examination of the anorectum in the office for an accurate diagnosis and assess the severity of the disease
  • Identify how to treat hemorrhoid disease in the office and be aware of possible complications, knowing when to refer to your surgeon
  • Compare and Contrast case studies, correctly diagnosing rectal dyssynergia and when to order anorectal manometry

Optimal Viewing Experience in GI Leap
Although all browsers continually roll out new versions and updates, we currently recommend using Chrome for the best functionality when accessing GI Leap. Please note that Internet Explorer is not a supported browser. Follow these tips for better streaming and viewing of ASGE videos:

  1. Close other applications and browser tabs. This decreases the load on memory so your computer or other device can focus on streaming.
  2. Use a 5 GHz frequency if your router supports it. The common 2.4 GHz frequency is used by household appliances, so is more crowded. Avoiding it is like getting into the carpool lane on a freeway: smoother sailing.
  3. Use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi if possible but GI LEAP is built with Wi-Fi in mind.
  4. Monitor your internet connection. If your ISP has promised you 5MBps and you are getting only 1MBps, it's time for a phone call to your internet provider to sort that out.
