Description

This ASGE activity consists of the video, Endoscopic Interpretation and Therapy of Severe Lower GI Bleeding (DV032), followed by a post-assessment and evaluation.

Lower gastrointestinal bleeding is common, accounting for approximately 30% of all major gastrointestinal bleeding. The approach to lower gastrointestinal bleeding is controversial. Recent studies have shown that urgent colonoscopy can be safe and therapeutic. The purpose of this educational program is to describe the art and science of the endoscopic management of patients with acute severe lower gastrointestinal bleeding.

Target Audience

Practicing gastrointestinal endoscopists, gastroenterologists, gastroenterology fellows and trainees, medical residents, physician assistants and nurses.

Learning Objectives

As a result of completing this activity, physicians will be able to:

  • Discuss the differential diagnosis of lower gastrointestinal bleeding in different patient populations.
  • Articulate a management algorithm for lower gastrointestinal bleeding.
  • Describe the endoscopic techniques used to control lower gastrointestinal hemorrhage.
