This CME activity consists of the ASGE video, Video Capsule Endoscopy: The Basics & Beyond, followed by a post-assessment and evaluation.

This video series on capsule endoscopy is geared to both novice and more experienced users. We start by taking viewers from the basics of equipment to normal findings and landmarks on capsule endoscopy. We will then review a number of conditions including bleeding, malabsorption, ulcerating diseases, and tumors and how they present on capsule endoscopy.  We finish the series with a number of diagnostic dilemmas that we are often challenged with in capsule endoscopy.  We are certain these videos will be instructive to both fellows and faculty, whether they are just beginning to learn capsule endoscopy or have experience.

Target Audience

Practicing gastroenterologists, gastroenterology fellows and trainees, medical residents, physician assistants, and nurses.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

• Discuss the indications for the risks of capsule endoscopy
• Identify normal structures seen on capsule endoscopy
• Identify and localize gastrointestinal bleeding
• Effectively utilize capsule endoscopy in the management of gastrointestinal bleeding
• Discuss ulcerative and structuring diseases of the small intestine and their capsule characteristics
• Identify tumors of the small bowel
• Discuss the characteristics of malabsorptive diseases of the small intestine
• Discern red spots from angioectasias, and bulges from tumors on capsule endoscopy
