Troubleshooting Commonly Encountered Problems with the Endoscope (DV076)
Released:  August 2016
Viewing Time:  24 minutes
Description

This CME activity consists of the ASGE video, Troubleshooting Commonly Encountered Problems with the Endoscope, followed by a post-assessment and evaluation.

Becoming familiarized with the endoscope can be challenging for new gastroenterology trainees, nurses, and technicians. Most new trainees, nurses, and technicians will learn about the endoscope through individualized teaching on the job. Individualized on the job teaching can be very effective, but is not standardized and can lead to ineffective transfer of knowledge. In particular, “tips and tricks” of the trade may have to be learned after the initial training period has been completed. Lack of basic, and advanced, knowledge of the endoscope can lead to delays and discord in the endoscopy suite.

The goal of this video is to serve as a primer for new trainees to learn the basics of the endoscope functions as well as advanced trouble shooting techniques when problems occur with the endoscope. We hope that this video will help to rapidly acquaint trainees to the endoscope to ensure that all trainees have advanced knowledge of endoscope function. When all members have a similar advanced knowledge of the endoscope functions, then one can expect more harmony and better teamwork in the endoscopy suite.
This video is divided into 8 sections including; Introduction, Before You Start (Checking the Endoscope), Lighting Problems, Insufflation Problems, Suction Problems, Irrigation Problems, Monitor Problems, Forceps Problems.
After completing this educational video, participants should be able to have a complete understanding of the endoscope function and efficiently troubleshoot problems with endoscope when they occur.
