The incidence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) including both ulcerative colitis (UC) and crohn’s disease (CD) is increasing globally. Medical management has made rapid strides in last decade, but endoscopy is now rapidly emerging as a very important tool in management of patients with IBD. From the index endoscopy, to diagnose the disease, or use of modern endoscopic advances for surveillance of disease activity, and dysplasia endoscopy plays a very important role in management of IBD. With recent advances in the world of therapeutic endoscopy new techniques like endoscopic stricturotomy, fistulotomy, sinusotomy are emerging forward. Recently, enteral stenting is coming back into the mix as we have now more options of through the scope stent placement. Of note many IBD physicians and general endoscopists lack the knowledge and expertise with these procedures. This course was designed to address these topics for the general endoscopists, IBD gastroenterology specialist and advanced practice providers to learn the fundamentals of utilizing advance endoscopy in management of patients with IBD.
This is an intensive learning experience with the goal to provide an overview of IBD management with specific focuses on balloon dilation, the use of stricturotomy and enteral stenting, to best benefit the IBD patient population.
